The Emmys red carpet definitely didn’t supply me with the most interesting fashion this year. I think that even the Worst Dressed lists are going to be a little bland this time around. Maybe we should stop having Worst Dressed lists so that people have room to take more fashion risks so that the red carpet isn’t so boring? Just a thought. Although the Emmys didn’t do it for me in general, there were some looks that I really liked. Take a look at them below in no particular order:
Sarah Paulson’s Prada dress was my favorite. I love this color green, I love the 3/4-length sleeves with the plunging neckline, I love the embroidery. Everyone should have served a look like this last night.
I think I’m too shy for it myself, but I love sparkly gold gowns. I know that a lot of people said that Claire Danes looked like she was dressed like an actual Emmy statue, and they’re definitely not wrong, but I love it anyway.
Kerry Washington made pregnancy look sexy. I love the cape and the little cut outs in this dress. And her hair was perfect too.
Actual Disney princess Priyanka Chopra twirled my heart away in this Jason Wu gown. The color was great on her, and of course she looked elegant af. I mean, Jason Wu regularly dresses Michelle Obama, enough said.
The Game of Thrones Ladies
The women of Game of Thrones all brought something different and interesting to the evening, and honestly I think they all look amazing. I’ve seen Sophie Turner, Gwendoline Christie, and Emilia Clarke pop up on a couple of Worst Dressed lists today (again, can we stop?) and I just think those people are crazy and sad. Maisie Williams looked fun and edgy but feminine. She also rocked some clip-in bangs and a new tattoo (she and Sophie Tuner got matching tattoos of the date they were hired on GoT. BFF goals).
I seriously love the sheer sections in this dress. I don’t have a lot more to say about it, but it’s one of my favorites of the night.
The Stranger Things babies
I love them. You love them. Maybe they’re what America needs right now in order to keep believing in the future. And also, they looked so fashionable. These three kids made more interesting fashion choices than most of the adults at the Emmys last night. Look at Caleb McLaughlin’s loafers. Plus, that jacket? And Gaten Matarazzo’s waistcoat? And then obviously Millie Bobby Brown is a burgeoning fashion icon. I could go on, but I won’t.
I’m obsessed with this dress. I love the high neckline and the collar, I love the buttons down the front and the silhouette. I love the gold and white print. Whatever, I love it. Yara Shahidi (ABC’s Black-ish) looked so perfect.
It’s almost boring to keep talking about how good Laverne Cox always looks. Maybe one day she’ll surprise us and show up looking sloppy just to keep things interesting, but until then I’ll just keep singing her praises.
I guess there’s less to say about men’s red carpet fashion. During the red carpet coverage last night, Tim Gunn said something about how it always bothers him when men get it wrong because it’s really not that difficult for them: just get a suit with stylish cut that fits well. That’s true, but I still want to mention some of the guys who did it properly and kept it interesting.
Aziz Ansari always looks excellent. I love this tux so much. I wish he’d worn a different collar style or a tie (or both), but I love it nonetheless.
Kit Harington looked classic and handsome per usual.
Rami Malek is another consistently well-dressed man. This white jacket is A+.
